 Hello !

Here´s a report from NAMM in Anaheim. I was at the NAMM show for 3 days Thursday to Saturday and here´s a photo report of what I saw. Anaheim is where Disneyland is. This was the view from my hotelroom:

The Convention Center was a 4 minute walk from my hotel. Which was a pleasant surprise. Here are som photos from outside the Convention Center:

Look closely at the text on the trailer:

The Gear:

If you like me are interested in high-end gear there was a lot to see at NAMM, not so much new products as I thoght it would be, but far more exhibitors tha I had expected, which of course was nice.

Telefunken showed their new M81 mic. Which is basically a M80 with different eq. Which gives you 2 great choices of TFUNK dynamic microphones. The M81 is the grey microphone. The M80 is black;

This is a custom built ELA M251 with AC701 tube. I want one. You can order your own custom built ELA M251 through Audio Dog !!! So e-mail us !!

TWO Notes Audio Engineering showed their new stomb box C.A.B. Speakers in a stomp box. Super Cool !!

Mojave Audio showed their new MA100fet stereo package:

BAE Audio showed their new Matt Sorum signature series 500-series (Lunchbox) preamps:

And their 2-channel desktop 1073 DMP:

They also showed a working version of their new compressor and of course their classic modules and frames:

Chris Pelonis sound displayed their Monitors:

The Pelonis Model 42 monitor:

The new AVALON DESIGN V5:

This is a U5 with a 737sp tube preamp. Price is not set yet and the unit will be availble later this year.

It will be available both in silver and black:

Avalon also showed the black version of the Vt-747, which is a 747 in black, no new features:

Coleman Audio showed all their awesome gear:

Colemans´gear is very good and as Glen Coleman says, in the end it´s always analoge.

LYNX showed their, by now, classical AURORA interfaces and the new 2-channel super AD/DA converter HILO which has just started shipping. This is a killer inface if you are looking for 2 channels.

A new company called Analog Alien showed 2 fuzz pedals that sound really great. The Fuzzbubble which is 2 fuzzpedals in 1. It has got 2 sides Pete and Jimi. You guess the rest:

We will soon have a demo-ex of the Fuzzbubble for you to try at our HQ.

Analog Aliens second pedal is called S.R.V. and will be out later this year:

The cool guys from Softube from Linköping were there, but I seldeom saw them so here´s their booth´s back drop:

Pete´s Place Audio were there:

At the bottom you can see their new Channel Strip !!

A-Designs were there:

The nice guys from Elysia were there:

In the photo you see their products and NOT the guys !!!

Chandler Ltd showed their new 19 Watt guitar amp:

Buchla was there with their absolutely incredible modular systems. This was the largest on display:

This is the best sounding polyphonic analog synthesizer I have ever tried. It cost an unknown gazillion dollars and it´s not yet decided if it will ever go into serial production. The guy who designed this has thought of everything and it´s a real analog beast. I want 2 of these !

The Mellotron, one of my favorite instruments is now made in Sweden. What´s the odds for a Mellotron ending up at the Audio Dog Studio ?

The People:

When I was given the badge to NAMM I was promised that I would be able to hang with some really cool people and that I would get to meet and see many famous musicians and producers. And the fact is that I met a lot of really wonderful people and saw some famous ones. I know that Stevie Wonder was there, he didn´t see me and I missed him. Jackson Browne walked around, and I missed him too. But with the enormous amount of people at the Convention Center (some said it was 90000 visitors/day, I don´t know if that is accurate) it was strange that I met any and got to talk to anyone at all. The first celebrity I saw was Alice Cooper, he is a short guy and I didn´t have my camera ready. Herer are some of the people that I actually met:

Holly Lane a very nice person who knows everybody and has worked with a lot of people:

Jack and Joe from Analog Alien:

 Jesper and John from TUBE-TECH:

Dusty Wakeman from Mojave and in the background is Mr. Royer of Royer Labs, who also is the creator of the Mojave microphones:

Don Buchla:

Don Buchla is together with Bob Moog one of the true synthesizer pioneérs and a person who I have read about since my early teens and seen photos of his incredible synths since I started buying Keyboard Magazine in the mid 1970´s. To finally meet him and be able to speak a little while with him was a great experience for me.

In the Buchla booth there were some prominent people answering questions and telling about their life with their Buchla synths. First out was Morton Subotnik a famous American composer who started early in the 1960's to work with Don Buchla developing electronical stuff:

Then it was Suzanne Ciani´s turn.

Suzanne Ciani is a very famous American Synthesist/Pianist who has recorded a lot of New Age music and in the 1970´s she made some incredible commercial soundtracks that have been so well recieved and her inventions in the jingle field has probably been copied a million times. After that she quit using her Buchla system and played piano for many years, now she´s back with a new Buchla and full of ideas. I was fortunate to talk to her for a few minutes:

Then there were people that I saw, heard but didn´t have the chance to talk to:

Howie Weinberg, a mastering engineer who sat in the Steven Slate booth and talked about what he´d done. Interesting guy with tons of experience.

Super mixing engineer Tony Maserati had a clinic in the AVID booth:

Some guys were there to write Autographs:

Here´s Jack Black´s partner from Tenacious D.

Duff McKagan had a new book out:

Some guys were there just to play, like Jeff Berlin. He played awesome solobass and seemed to enjoy himself.

Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as I enjoyed being at the 2012 NAMM show.

Cheers,

Ulf

Hello !

Todays blog is about a couple of memorable moments from last year and from this year as well.

The AES show in the USA is held either in New York or San Francisco and last year was New Yorks´  year.
As always you meet a lot of nice people and makers of high quality gear and gets to hear first hand info from the makers themselves which makes it special as you get to know stuff that is not told to everybody.

One of this years nice addition to a product line was BAE Audios new compressor which was shown as a prototype and will hopefully be released during the NAMM show next week. We will be there to check for that.

Another product that reaaly caught my attention was Microtech-Gefells´ new microphone which is built exactly as in the 1950´s and it´s very beautiful:

The other products that really impressed me was the new products from Harrison Consoles. The LINAGE 8-channel preamp with all the 4 generations of Harrison mic pres in it and merely 1 rackspace high:

The LINAGE was one of the 'MIX Certified hits" of the AES show so it got one of these:

The other Harrison product the 950m console was given with 1 award and nominated for another !!

The best of show award:

And was nominated for a TECH award:

And we are of course very happy to be Harrisons Consoles Swedish contact.

I always encourage people to be curious and try out new things. Here´s a photo of Mira investigating an Atomic Squeeze Box from Innertube Audio, one of the worlds most talked about compressor and not within reach for most people pricewise.

Have a continued Happy Sunday !!

Cheers,

Ulf

Hello Blog readers !

I would like to share some memorable moments from 2011 with you. It happened a lot of fun things and a lot of not so funny things last year. This is one of the happy memories.

A Swedish artist, Daniel Lindqvist, is recording vocals in the Audio Dog studio (and for you Audio people we use a TELEFUNKEN U47 through an NPNG mic pre and VOVOX cables, no processing). On a couple of occassions he has had an American producer/songwriter, Peter Roberts, joining the sessions via SKYPE. And it´s been amazing having a hot shot LA producer in the studio. And I hope to meet him in person next week at the NAMM convention in Anaheim.

Here you can see Daniel getting advice from the Notebook which is Peter Roberts via SKYPE. Quite a nice experience to bring in competence via SKYPE.

If you want to come to the Audio Dog Studio and do some tracking, just e-mail or phone us.

You can check out Peter Roberts work on www.peterrobertsmusic.com

More memorable moments to come !

Stay tuned !

Cheers,

Ulf
